Picture: The small summit cairn on Slieve Maan North Top
This summit is for list completers and lovers of tree bashing, It is not one to make a walk out of.
Use the Wicklow Way from the South at A (T086 874) or the North at Drumgoff Recreation Area at DrGof Fst (T094 889) both places which have ample parking.
Leave the Wicklow Way at B (T08593 88493) where as of December 2016 there is clearfelling of the woodland. Go West North West up to the trees to find and follow the firebreak uphill to the ridge line. At this point turn right into the trees and follow the ridge about 200m to find the Summit cairn in a clearing beside a pond/pool.

A nice surprise
by mickhanney 1 Jul 2019
I had previously parked up at Drumgoff Recreational area (point B) and traversed the boardwalks from the Drumgoff mapboard at Wicklow way, following trail left descending from there. So, I approached summit from the opposite side of the ridge to the previous poster. At point C (T07785 88793) a rough but clear track rises up towards the ridge line, running roughly towards where there is an intersection of trail clearings From that clearing junction point, veer right towards summit around and over some peat stacks only a couple of hundred metres away. EastWest maps has this point called 'Brown Knob'.
Pleasantly surprised by the summit but this was helped by the sunny and warm evening I visited. Views once out of the forestry towards Glenmalure were great. Dropped down towards Wickow way, trees had lots of little deer tracks through them making it easily accessible down towards point C. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1442/comment/20566/

Slieve masochism
by Colin Murphy 27 Aug 2019
As I was poked in the eye for the tenth time by a rotting branch, I first began to question my my commitment to my Local 100. When I stumbled on the uneven forest floor and fell over for the third time, my hand landing in a pool of mud, I seriously began to wonder why I hadn't taken up something more pleasant, like walking barefoot on hot coals. And when I finally emerged at the 'summit' and rested, allowing my pained mortal coil to recover somewhat, I sat there on a damp clump of heather, looking around at the non existent view and the top's most memorable feature - a pool of muddy water - and wondered aloud (as I'm sure every hillwalker had on occasion) 'why do I do this?'. Anyway, another one ticked off. The next hill can only be an improvement. And the view on the way down was nice...Other than as a bagging exercise, avoid this one like the plague. The green light
by Colin Murphy 27 Aug 2019
One of the few moments of relief I experienced when battling my through the conifers on the way up this top, was when I came across this area where all the branches were draped with hanging moss, enhanced by summer sunlight streaming down from above. Picture: The pile marks the spot
Is that it!
by march-fixer 23 Mar 2020
This spot is easiest located by heading towards Slieve Maan from the Military Road and then heading north along the extraction track. It is not a place for visiting other than for summit bagging or as a spot to visit on the way to another more deserving location. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1442/comment/20774/

Forest gone
by mickhanney 22 Apr 2023
All forest has now been removed from around this summit. So what used to be a nice pile of stones nicely surrounded by trees, is just stones with a clear view towards military road. You can get their directly from Wicklow way, parking at Drumgoff rec. Follow Wicklow way for about 1.5k south, then take a straight line up the rough, de-forested ground.
