Also called the Mottie. The second element in Croaghanmoira is most likely from the title of the Earl of Moira who had lands in the vicinity of Greenan. Papers of the Kemmis family record that Thomas Kemmis purchased lands in the area around Greenan in 1805 from the Right Honourable Francis Rawdon Hastings, Earl of Moira. Croaghanmoira stands above Greenan and would clearly have been part of this estate. It would thus be the Cruachán on the Earl of Moira's land, prior to the sale of the land in 1805, in contrast to Croghan Kinsella, which lies about 10 miles to the S. Croaghanmoira is the 176th highest place in Ireland.

Croaghanmoira, with its distinctive pointed summit, is visible from many vantage points and equally offers widespread views - from Sugarloaf to Mt. Leinster and a lot in-between. It's the highpoint of a private estate and care needs to be taken when selecting a route.

NW. Start at Drumgoff Gap [T08752 87588 star

A] where there is ample space to park and you also benefit from an elevated starting point. Follow the obvious track which brings you to the forest corner at T09406 86978 star

B. From here either follow the trail alongside the forestry edge or head straight up the NW ridge to the summit, the ground getting steeper as you go. Allow 1hr
SE. Park about 200m W of T11304 85578 star

C and walk E to the bridge, From here be prepared for a steep slog up Ballinacor Mt. from where it's a relatively easy walk over to C. This is a 4k walk which should take 60 to 90 mins.
NE. Park at T10204 89297 star

D and aim for the Fananierin ridge from where it's a very fine walk. 90mins+

W. It's possible to access the mountain via the forestry to the W but is an inferior route that might best be used on a day of high winds. One option is to park at T08551 86760 star

E in the N or at Mucklagh bridge to the S and to follow tracks until you reach a spur at T08835 86432 star

F, From here head ENE through the deforested lands until you pick up the aforementioned trail from Drumgoff Gap.

Nothing really much to add to what's here already. A handy walk of about 4km return using forest tracks from the West. Superb views on top (and I was particularly lucky to get the one good evening in the middle of a really bad spell of weather). I live nearby so I visit this summit quite often. Stunning view over the whole Wicklow Mountains range. There's a number of ways to climb it but I tend to use the shortest one. This summit is at the southern edge of the Ballinacor estate, a traditionally managed game estate. Parties ascending Croghanmoira should avoid disturbance to the lands north and east of it, including Ballinacor summit and the valley below. Approaches from the South or West should be OK. It was always possible to go to Fananierin Mountain via the ridge, but there is lately some notice restricting the use of the exit track onto the Military Road fron the saddle immediately north of that summit.
