Users of the website must acknowledge adventure walking (on summits, coastal features and islands) and kayaking are sports with a risk of personal injury and accept the points made here. MountainViews believes that all visitors to the hills or other wild places in Ireland learn how to look after themselves and take responsibility for their personal safety and the safety of people they are walking with. Safety instructions and information about courses are available from the Mountaineering Ireland website or equivalent organisations in other countries or through reputable training bodies. MountainViews is not intended to have comprehensive navigational information. Visitors to mountains should equip themselves with maps, compasses, optionally GPS, and navigational skill. While we do share user comments and GPS information as a service, we believe that use of such information for navigation and safe walking is always secondary to the users choice and responsibility for navigation and safety. Such information as we have is presented in the hope that such information is of use but without any guarantee that it is correct.
MountainViews presents GPS tracks and routes generated by other users. Such tracks are a record of where another member went, not necessarily an appropriate route for you and your party for reasons such as route difficulty, weather conditions or access permission from landowners. It is the user's responsibility to ascertain that a route is safe and allowed for their party. Statistics presented such as amount of ascent based on the tracks are a guideline at best and are sometimes badly wrong. Times given are generally those of the original creator who may be much faster than you or the slowest member of your party.
