An easy walk, mostly along well-maintained tracks, yet with the reward of spectacular views. Access is via The Silent Valley Mountain Park and will cost you a fiver, although it’s worth the small fee as there is a large car park, toilets and even a coffee shop.
From the car park follow the well-signposted path up towards the main reservoir, and besides a brief slope, mostly it’s flat terrain.
The views north along the reservoir are tremendous and the name really does suit – it’s as quiet as a graveyard.
Cross the dam and then swing south, where you’ll have the choice of several tracks weaving among the woodland and passing a couple of very small but pretty loughs, and then back to the car park.
Just under 3km in a leisurely 45 minutes.
