Much of the flanks of KMSWT is steep cliff though it is possible to reach it fairly readily from Keelogyboy Mountain to the north east.. If you are doing this be aware that there is a handy gully on Keelogyboy Mtn which you can descend from G7707 3864 A. Also be aware that the ground cover is much easier to the east and north east of the top.
Unlike all the other Keelogyboys this one has lowland views on all sides except one ( the NE) and it is well worth a visit on this account. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/751/comment/5510/

I climbed Keelogyboy SW Top on 5 May 2012 as the second top in a round of hills in the Castlegal Group. (For earlier part of the route see my comments on Keelogyboy Mt.) From the top of Keelogyboy Mt. we headed SW with the SW Top looking tantilisingly close but seperated from the main top by a short but steep descent down to a col G769386 B and then up W to the prominent rounded summit G7677138698 C. Views from the top were extensive. W, beyond Sligo, was Knocknarea with it's distinctive rounded megalithic cairn, while NW were two of the tops to be visited later in the day, Cope's Mt and Crockauns, backed by the Ben Bulbin/Truskmore massif. To the S, twinkling in the sun, was Lough Gill. Sitting there looking around you become very aware that these small hills could well pose navigational difficulties in mist where accurate route finding, to avoid their many sharp cliff faces, would be essential. In this regard when retracing our way back down to the col we noted a distinctive gully on the sharp W face of Keelogyboy Mt. and used it as our return route for climbing back up and over the hill. As this would be a safer route down in mist the top starts at G7709738634 D should anyone wish to use it. Once up we continued NE for some 500m to the col with the NE Top above and S of Stramore Lough before continuing across to a gravel track for access to Keelogyboy NE Top. Alternatively had we wished to shorten the walk at this point we could have followed the track down N past the lough and then back to the start at G7626940300 E Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/751/comment/6820/

If you have reached KMSWT via the gully mentioned by Simon3, it is possible to return to Keelogyboy Mountain by dropping back to the col at G769 386 B and then heading to the left of the cliffs facing you. There is a large heathery re-entrant at G769 389 F that allows a straightforward climb back up to Keelogyboy Mountain. Don’t be fooled by the heathery bog approach to Keelogyboy SW Top. There is a line of sheer drops immediately at the summit just waiting for the unsuspecting walker to step off. If you survive the initial drop, you can look forward to a long slide down a very steep scree slope with further occasional drops and rocks. My photo shows the cliffs, along with the scree slopes, as viewed from the re-entrant mentioned above. This is a fantastic little hill and gives a real sense of thrill that belies its 417 metre height.

Living locally I separated the Keelogyboys and Hangmans Hill into a few shorter climbs. With the possible exception of Hangmans Hill the SW Top offers the best views of the bunch, and can be completed with the main Keelogyboy top readily. Keelogyboy is signposted off the R278, about 2km east of Calry church. The road eventually gives way to a track and I parked my car at a gate into a field at approx. G76039 39187 G. From aim for the gap between the main top and the SW top - it's about a 700m walk across relatively flat heathery type land and is very obvious from where you park. From there it's a short steep stroll up around the back of the mountain to the peak, avoiding the cliffs. Great views from here all the way from Lough Gill, to Sligo Town, Knocknarea, Sligo Bay and Copes Mountain. Once you descend back into the gap it's a similar scramble north up to the main Keelogyboy peak. Out and back to the car, visiting the 2 peaks took 1hr 15 minutes on a cool January afternoon.
