Track Rating ..
[RWD version 1 ] This is an anti-clockwise circuit of the Hag's Glen taking in the major tops around the perimeter.

Parked at the nice Lisleibane car-park. There is ample room here for about 30 cars. This is closer to Carrauntoohil and is free. Left the car-park through the swing-gate and followed the track S towards the glen. Then headed SW up the ridge to Knockbrinnea (East) where there are superb views south east into the valley. Headed W to the summit of Knockbrinnea (West) before switching SW for the haul up Beenkeragh.

We then descended S along a faint track towards The Bones. The clouds can come and go here in a matter of seconds. Probably best if you do not get a good look down east into the glen! Cautiously made our way across Beenkeragh Ridge arete and gingerly east around The Bones. Not sure if there is a defined track here as it was difficult in misty conditions to follow anything!

Arrived down at the top of Br. O'Shea's Gully where we met a couple of walkers ascending from the glen. Headed up the rough track on to Carrantoohil. Stopped in the stone windbreak for a quick snack and drink before continuing down towards the top of the Devil's Ladder. There are a series of cairns along this descent, so if you do not see them - something is wrong! There was quite a group of people gathered on the col in all kinds of inappropriate gear - runners, T-shirts, short sleeved shirts and such like. They must think it is a walk in the park and never seem to consider the wet and cool conditions further up on the summit.

We set off again SE along the col to Cnoc na Toinne. This is an easy enough haul even at this stage. We were thinking of heading down the Zig Zags, but in the poor conditions we missed the track and headed instead for Cnoc an Chuillinn. We then veered E to Cnoc an Chuillinn East Top.

Finally, we headed on for Maolan Bui. This was a hard enough haul to the top since the summit is visible from a distance. From here we veered NW down the ridge. At the rocky outcrop, 2/3 of the way down, we (incorrectly) opted to track around the west (left) side and missed the opportunity to follow the way-markers all along a grassy ridge heading NE towards the glen exit. Instead, we descended the rocky slope towards Lough Callee. We contoured down the grassy section NW to cross the rocky Gaddagh River without any problem and joined the track leading out of the glen.

It was then only a short walk down the glen and veered left where the path Y-junction brings you back to the car-park. A truly excellent walk in a fantastic area. Must get back again when good visibility is guaranteed.
