14 MountainViewers took advantage of an opportunity to visit this private island in July and walk to the summit. The owners have only just started to allow limited access. We had to remain with the guides for our walk, and although the island is big (1300 acres) we were restricted to the route shown. We didn't spot any of the resident wild wallabies, but were assured by the guide that about 30 do live on the island.
A pristine island well looked after by the current Lord Revelstoke, Alex Baring, it has deer, cattle, sheep, rabbits, black rats, and, of course, wallabies. (As well as one of Ireland's largest collection of seabirds). For €75 pp SkerriesSeaTours will bring you out and guide you around. (The island owners take a cut). Worth a visit, and Lambay will join the MountainViews lists in the next few months, so why not go early and be amongst the first to see it?
