Picture: Carrigoona Commons from the east.
This summit is a northerly extension of the Great Sugar Loaf, though separated from this by a road. It has some great views. One place to start is around A (O23156 15611) where there is parking for 2 or 3 cars. Walk up a boggy tractor track to the summit. There is an easy scramble near the top. Up and down in 25 minutes. Alternatively take a minor road on the left whilst driving up the Rocky Valley Drive from Kilmacanogue and park near to water storage tanks besides a house at B (O23422 15355). Less than 10 minutes walk along path to the summit.
There have been a number of gorse fires over the years on Carrigoona Commons and the nearby Great Sugar Loaf, threatening houses.

Spectacular views across city, coast and hills
by hibby 10 Feb 2024
Took our newly-adopted dog out for his first off-road walk. This has always been a favourite spot of mine, offering an excellent payoff in the form of scenic views in return for a very little effort.

We started from A (O23156 15611) and set off up a muddy farm track. Once out on the common we followed a narrow path south through the heather to the summit lump.

The dog proved well able to clamber up and down the rocks to the summit. A good result for a lifetime of outdoor activities together. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1223/comment/24125/

Easy top really
by Fergalh 9 Nov 2014
Take second right hand turn after Kilmacanogue, than first right follow this road to a house below the top and follow tracks behind house to summit. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1223/comment/15804/

Ordinary hill with sugar coated views
by Colin Murphy 25 Jul 2019
Started from just outside the farm as suggested in short summary, where a friendly farmer warned me of recent car break-ins and not to leave anything visible. The walk was simplicity itself - 10 minutes to the top and met several people walking dogs on the way - it's clearly a popular spot with locals. The top itself is a large, dome-shaped rock offering fine panoramas. If nothing else, this top can claim to be the best spot in Wicklow to view Great Sugar Loaf, whose rocky face which rises steeply from the landscape just 1km to the south. An easy bag with some nice views
by csd 30 Oct 2021
As other contributors have said, a very easy walk from the suggested parking spot up to the summit for an easy bag. Some nice views in all directions - here's one looking west towards Djouce and the Powerscourt Waterfall. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1223/comment/23345/
