Foilclogh Hill Faill an Locha A name in Irish Ir. Faill an Locha [UR#], 'cliff of the lake’ Kerry County in Munster Province, in Carn List, Purple mudstone & siltstone Bedrock

Bedrock type: Purple mudstone & siltstone, (Valentia Slate Formation)

According to An Seabhac this peak is named after Loch na Réidhchoilleach (Lough Rehill), which is at its foot. The anglicised form Foilclogh is misleading, as it suggests the second element is cloch, 'stone'. Foilalough would have been more faithful to the original Irish name.   Foilclogh is the 580th highest place in Ireland.

Good walk up track and solid terrain.
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  7 Apr 2025
There is parking for a couple of cars at V49565 76526 starA. Walk up the track on right to the SE for about 100m or until you can see somewhere to hop the barbed-wire fence safely. Cross a bit of rough ground, then another fence, and you’ll emerge on a broad, rough farm track. Follow this NE a bit and it swings around to the SE, directly up the slope. It continues like this for a while, but then after another fence on the left, it changes to an even broader swathe of hard earth, rocks and grass. This eventually peters out after about 1km. From there it’s a mixture of short grass and rocks, good solid terrain, although steeper, with a bit of a trail to follow. Continue for another 1km up this, veering more to the east and at about 450m ascent, at V50291 74735 starB emerge on a broad ridge covered in shortish heather, with a fence running W-E towards summit. Follow this for another 600m to summit marked by a low pile of stones. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/466/comment/5225/
