For those who prefer an alternative to the five euros and tourists associated with Geokaun, Bray Head (summit seemingly named Foiltagarriff on OSI Sheet 78) provides a jaunt equal in scenery but considerably superior in terms of quietness. Starting from Mr Bloke's point B the track leads easily and obviously up to the signal tower from where a right turn leads up an easy slope along the edge of the cliffs (assorted faint paths) to the top. No cows in-situ when I was there (plenty on the way up though, so I'd echo the point about comfort in the company of cattle being required) but nor was there mist: therefore I can confidently state that there's some excellent cliff scenery here.

It's easy enough to cut the corner back to the track on the return by heading ESE from the summit: the route of descent is arrayed before you. Easier to avoid the cows that way too. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1010/comment/5954/

The route described by others is still the same and it's now way marked. Just to mention that there is now a car park which is a discovery point along the Wild Atlantic Way which is the start point and there is a two euro charge (Sorry Peter Walker) to park here but it is money well spent. Parked the car at the Skellig Heritage centre (V371 734 B immediately on the left after crossing the bridge from Portmagee) as recommended by Kevin Corcoran in his Kerry Walks book. We should know better. He likes a bit of road walking does Kevin, so cut out an hour of tarmac thudding and park at V350 738 C like everyone else. Room for 8-10 cars to park here. Hop over the style and follow the track up the signal tower remains, then bear right and it's a gentle climb up to a flat, featureless summit. Some steep sea cliffs here, but as usual it was too misty to see anything of them. The top seems to be in the middle of some old bog works. Marked by a cow the day we were there.
