here is the summit cairn on Bascadh West Top, looking towards Bascadh. Great views over Kenmare Bay, back towards Knocklomena and Mullaghanattin. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1420/comment/18291/

View Heaven!

Here is a view towards Bascadh West Top, taken while en route to Bascadh. The summit is located on the ridge to the left. Knocklomena is the bulk rising up on the right with the familiar shape of Mullaghanattin behind that. I was following the route in Adrian Hendroff"s book of the Dingle, Iveragh and Beara peninsulas, The hills above"Molls'gap " A great walk and recommended to everyone, but keep it for a good day. It would be a shame to miss out on the spectacular views. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1420/comment/18292/

Fine hill when viewed from the west

I most recently approached this summit in an easterly direction from where it is a facile but beautiful saunter from Bascadh itself. The descent to Lough Fadda is another thing though! I decided to aim for Lough Beg in the south and to cross over to Knocklomena via the southern end of Lough Fadda. The going was tough and I was glad of a pair of sticks in helping me to keep somewhat vertical...with the glories of a scramble up Knocklomena in store I wanted to remain intact!
