Colin Murphy: Track 4967 in area near Collon Hill, Wicklow (Ireland)
Routine forest walk but with rewarding summit views.
Length: 5.1km, Creator time taken: 1h25m, Ascent: 150m, Descent: 152m
Places:Start at T3016487802, Collon Hill, end at Start Logged as completed by 2
A fairly straightforward climb mostly along Coillte forest tracks until the final few hundred metres. There is parking for a few cars at the Cullen Wood entrance. You could choose to approach from the eastern or western side as there is a web of trails in the forest. We turned right at the first fork and headed for the western slopes of the hill and followed a gently rising trail for about 2.5km that curved around to the west before turning south. At the point where another track leads off NE, we continued straight, the track deteriorating into a narrow grassy trail with a rivulet of water running down the centre.About 500m past this point, watch for a very narrow trail leading off into the woods on the left. Follow this up into the trees as it cuts a path through high ferns and an almost horizontal tree.Eventually you will spot a thin wooden cross atop a cairn with a trig pillar next to it. Whereas the climb was a fairly monotonous trek through woodland, the well-defined summit compensates, presenting tremendous views of the south eastern Wicklow coastline.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 16m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
