The Bearhaven copper mines, located to the west of Knockoura on the low but rugged hills above Allihies, were run by the Puxley family of Dunboy. Daphne du Maurier relocated them on Hungry Hill for her novel of the same name.   Knockoura is the highest hill in the Slieve Miskish area and the 600th highest in Ireland. Knockoura is the second most easterly summit in the Slieve Miskish area.

Simple walk up tarmac road.
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  25 Aug 2024
You can just squeeze one car by the side of the narrow road at V60771, where a trail leads towards some trees. It is not advisable to drive any further than this, as a closed gate has now been erected at V61517 44477 starA, and you will have to reverse about 700m. From there proceed up the rough, tarred road, cross gate and simply follow it for about 2.5km, up a very gently rising slope, just making sure you take a right at the fork at V61684 45119 starB. The high point is marked by a tilting trig pillar atop a peaty mound. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/485/comment/5244/
