[RWD version 1 ] A simple walk in one respect, although I had 5 minutes of panic at the start thanks to a closed gate. Drove up the narrow, rough road from Ballydonegan where I believed (thanks to Google Streetview) that I would find a turning point where the zigzag begins. Unfortunately I met a closed gate and was faced with the prospect of having to reverse about 500m down the road to turn/park. I’m not the best reverser by any stretch and considering there was a steep drop on my right, I was frankly terrified for a while. I managed to open a metal spring-hook on the gate but discovered it was still secured by a length of thick, nylon cord and I had no means of cutting it. Eventually I managed to separate each of the strands and break them, a process that took 5 minutes. But thankfully, I finally managed to open the gate and could park just beyond it.

Take the low road
I continued to the track, taking the right hand path at the fork, and having to detour around several flooded sections (in August) before eventually reaching the summit trig after about 2km. Not much in the way of climbing and no views as the visibility was only about 50m.

Summit trig
The trig is a bit lopsided also and might collapse any day! A four-wheel drive passed me on way down and the driver waved at me, so he clearly had no problem with me having passed through gate, although I’d park about 500m before zigzag if I were you!
