simon3: Track 859 in area near Birreencorragh South Top, North Mayo (Ireland)
Great place to start this classic circuit of five Nephin Beg summits.
Length: 17.0km, Creator time taken: 6h34m, Ascent: 1032m,
Descent: 1039m

Places: Start at G03490 02391, Birreencorragh South Top, Mount Eagle, Birreencorragh West Top, Birreencorragh, Knockaffertagh, end at Start
Logged as completed by 1
The start is deep inside the forest as shown. This was feasible in 2011 but my strong advice is not to count on this being drivable or allowed and in particular not to drive in here if a gate is installed.
The circuit is as shown. The pull up from Mount Eagle is hard work! We went wrong leaving Knockaffertagh. Go SE from the top to the slight summit and approach the forest from its NE side. Do not enter the forest where we did as there was knee high gunge. Alternative ways can be seen using the OS Aerial Photo layer.

Note: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, a rough and often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 5h 8m + time stopped for breaks
Note: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
