[RWD version 1 ] As of 2025 there is a publicly supported car park as a starting place for this walk. The final 100m by road is extremely potholed.
There is an agreed route which crosses several fields. It is separated from the working area of the fields by an electric fence.

Crossing fields from the starting point.
Initially the route is rough and muddy with posts indicating directions with a gradual increase in elevation.

Backlit hillwalkers before the turn uphill.
The route continues uphill over rough ground to the first of the four paternoster lakes. On the day we were there, it sparkled in the sunlight. The "official" route turns right and west at this point, however this route went up beside each of the lakes.

The third highest of the paternoster lakes.
The route went to the highest and largest of the lakes in the Boolas at Coumgorragh and then came back and found the official route to continue to The Gap.

A view of the Knockanaffrin ridge in January sun.
After reaching the Gap, in foreground before Knockanaffrin in the photo, the route turns right, downhill and NE before joining with the original way up from the carpark.
While neither a very long walk nor one that reaches any summits, this route shows off one of fifteen or so coums that are perhaps the main attraction of the central Comeraghs. The succession of paternoster lakes bears comparison to say Coomavoher in Dunkerrons, Kerry or the lakes under Brandon on Dingle.
