[RWD version 1 ] This turned out to be hillus horribilus for me. Parking for a couple of cars at start point. Followed the track to the east, which was perfectly fine to walk with none of the muddier conditions others experienced.

Cummer from the starting point.
Entered the forest and followed a forest ride to its end, scrambled over a bank of earth and walked NNW up through mature trees for about 500m.

The fist 500m of forest is fine - it's then the trouble starts.
But at the upper reaches of the forest things turned bad – younger, near impenetrable forest, brambles, gorse. Somehow I beat a path through, and emerged scratched, sweating and muddy from the woods on to the broad, flattish, heather-covered summit, which is unmarked, but has decent views and still had a good amount of lying snow despite it being about 10 deg C.

I definitely wasn’t returning the same way, so I followed the edge of the forest west and then cut down to the SW across open ground. This consisted of large clumps of high grass, heather and very uneven ground, and I fell a few times. Eventually I met a wall of gorse and was forced to return to the edge of the woodland and pick a muddy path back to where I’d originally entered forest and then to my car. 90 minutes to walk 3km! One for the baggers only.

The snow and views brightened an otherwise dull top.
