Track Rating ..
[RWD version 1 ] This linear route starts from the Healy Pass and ascends to Knockowen. There's a small amount of parking at or near the pass.
The way up is middling steep and soon the vista unfolds.

Midway to Knockowen there's this interesing conjunction of the two summits of Knockastumpa in front of Knockatee, a small icon around these parts. Over the Kenmare River is Beann and Mullaghanattin in cloud.

From the summit of Knockowen we got a great view of the famous Cummeengeara Horseshoe.
Knockowen is perched above the Glenrastel valley and river.

Knockowen and its North Cliff. The descent from Knockowen to the Glenrastel River is about 500m
The route went over Cushnaficulla and then Knockeirky. The prominence of the latter seemed from maps to be about 30m making it a dubious Arderin, but we measured it as 39.4m, well above the necessary of 30m.
The main issue after this is getting down off the mountains. Knockeirky South has a series of broken cliffs skirting it.
Our route went towards the Glenkeel Lough and dam. The dam and lake are used as part of the drinking water supply. A pipe leads down the hillside with a driveable road up to the dam. When we say driveable we mean with a four wheel or tracked vehicle!

Part of the track down. To the right, out of the picture is the pipeline, along which is is possible to walk.
Finally descending to where we had left our car at V83115 52843, we used part of the Beara Way. This appears in places to be defunct and we weren't sure about the access though there were no signs excluding us.

Looking back towards Knockeirky South from the public road near V83115 52843.
All in all this is a superb route, starting from reasonably high and proceeding above the cliff down to Glenrastel and then with the striking way down past Knockeirky South.
