This is a straightforward but longish (and mostly dull) trek up forest tracks, but with some decent views towards the upper end. There is parking for several cars just before an open gate with a sign prohibiting public access. I parked, ignored the signs, and walked up the wide, stony track. After about 500m I came to another gate, this one closed, also with signs prohibiting access. Again I pressed on until I came to a third closed gate near an enclosure with pylons. There was a hut beyond this and a security van. Here we go, I thought. A young man’s head appeared when I opened the gate. I said ‘hi’, told him I was ‘just a hillwalker’ and he said, ‘oh, ok.’ No problem as far as he was concerned.
I continued up the endless track, avoiding the first turn on the right, and taking the track into the trees on the right just before a gate – this was roughly 2.5km up track. Finally I started to see some decent views to the north and west.
The track meandered on for another 2.5km towards the rocky top, which is covered in ugly transmitters and associated concrete structures, but offered good views all round. Found a pole jammed into a crevice in a rock on the southern side, which appears to be the highpoint. Returned the same way – a 10km round trip.
