[RWD version 1 ] This is a simple 2.5km return walk with a climb of just 50m, but it’s well worth the effort if you’re in the Killybegs area and have about 40 minutes to spare.

And please note, the waterfall can only be visited at low tide. There is parking for about 5/6 cars at the Largy viewpoint on the R263 just west of Killybegs. Walk east back along the road (with care, as it’s a busy route) for about 250m until you come to an opening on the right, and a gate leading to a trail down towards the shore. This is privately owned land but access is no problem as long as gates are closed and dogs kept on a lead etc. The trail leads down to a small, rocky beach.

Turn south west and follow the jutting cliffs, having to clamber over lots of large boulders. A couple of the rock formations rise well over 1.5 metres so a degree of scrambling is necessary, but eventually you will see a narrow stream running towards the sea, and on the right a tunnel of sorts about 25m long, at the end of which you reach the waterfall pouring from an opening in the rock and grass overhead.

It’s hardly a torrent in the summer, and is probably more impressive after wet weather, but either way it makes for an unusual geological sight and worth the minimal effort.
