Colin Murphy: Track 5111 in area near Preban Hill, Wicklow (Ireland)
Dull trek through Coillte forests
Length: 7.8km, Creator time taken: 1h55m, Ascent: 233m,
Descent: 262m

Places: Start at T0875880025, Preban Hill, end at T0921180202 486m E from Start
Logged as completed by 1

At the start of this walk, you are slightly over 1km from the highpoint as the crow flies. And yet the return journey amounts to almost 8km of relatively dull trekking.
Lots of this awaits you...
There is parking for a couple of cars at the forest entrance. Follow the winding trail along typical Coillte forest tracks, endless conifers surrounding you. Luckily there is some slight relief from the tedium at the western end of one of the forest tracks, and you can leave the wide forest road, taking a narrow trail through the woods at T08591 79699.
The slightly more interesting section of the trail
This route will also save you about 2.5km unnecessary walking and has decent views. The trail goes west then swings south and gaining much more height than the previous sections. The highpoint is a small pile of rocks on a small rise on the SE corner of crossroads.
Highpoint
For some variation you can take the track to the north from there and then take another, very rough track NWW after about 250m which will link up with your original ascent route. Fine views of the Wicklow Mts to the north.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 57m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
