properteneur: Track 5015 in area near Croaghacullin, Donegal SW (Ireland)
North face approach
Length: 6.2km, Creator time taken: 2h21m, Ascent: 267m,
Descent: 269m

Places: Start at G7013881134, Croaghacullin, end at Start
Logged as completed by 2

This is totally experimental route aimed at the fastest and shortest approach to north summit and then cutting through to the actual peak. Start is the same as the other track, parking space for two cars beside the gate. About 1km walk uphill and turn left via the clearing (old forestry work, I assume). Then cut through the woodland, which is tricky and boggy until the rocky face starts. Then carefully but steadily climb it, following animal tracks. There's zero signs of any activity of a human there. Pure and enjoyable ascend. Once at the top, the views are simply amazing, in my opinion north summit has much more to offer than the actual 405m summit marked officially on the map, but I guess it's a matter of taste. Further route goes through ups and downs across the hill. No cairn at the time of writing (6 January 2024), so you need to assess the highest point closest to the marked summit on the map. Way back was a total improvisation, and a "jungle" run through the swampy and dark coniferous patches. Tricky at parts, so watch your legs. Don't think anyone will follow this one, but if you do, please let me know. A lot of fun and swampy shoes in winter time, but very satisfying route.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 41m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
