Colin Murphy: Track 4897 in area near Thur Mountain, Dartry Mountains (Ireland)
Fine hill with interesting geology
Length: 1.9km, Creator time taken: 1h 6m, Ascent: 145m,
Descent: 143m

Places: Start at G9868440582, Thur Mountain, end at Start
Logged as completed by 1

It is possible to drive to up a road past some farm buildings, the road then becomes a drivable track up to turf workings, although care is needed on the occasionally potholed road, and you must open and close a gate at one point, but no signs deny access.
Thur seen from east.
This takes you to 300m ascent and from there the summit is just 650m to the west. Cross some turf workings and begin to ascend through steeper terrain, mostly grass and the occasional boulder, then turn NW up the short, but steepest final stretch.
View to the east.
Great views all round, particularly towards Lough MacNean to the east.
The interesting geology at the summit.
The summit area is an interesting mix of short heather and flat rocks dotted with shallow pools. The high point is a distinctive, lone, small boulder topped with stones.
Boulder marks the high point.
Return journey to car 1 hour.

COMMENTS
No comments uploaded yet.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 0h 37m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
