Colin Murphy: Track 4858 in area near Carntogher, Sperrin Mountains (Ireland)
Loop walk on Carntogher Way
Length: 7.7km, Creator time taken: 2h15m, Ascent: 508m,
Descent: 508m

Places: Start at C8184904534, Carntogher, end at Start
Logged as completed by 1

Parked at Carntogher Way car park and walked about 750m NW along road, crossing the Altkeeran River and then turning left, over a gate to follow a grassy trail (squelchy in parts) west for about 800m.
Altkeeran River
This then swings NNW for a kilometre, following an old wall most of the way, and eventually meeting a more substantial track running E-W.
Follow this grassy area up alongside the old wall.
Turned left and came to Emigrant’s Cairn after about 500m, then circled around back of the steepish bump that marks the summit area, which is marked by a grass-covered stone age cairn with marker/description pole atop it. Rather than returning the same way, after I passed the Emigrant’s Cairn I continued east along the Cartonger Way, which afforded me fine views of the furze-covered hillside to the south. This trail curved around to eventually rejoin the road about 800m north of where I’d originally left it, but left me with a longer road walk back to car. Just over 2 hours in total.
Fine views on the descending trail.

No comments uploaded yet.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 2h 24m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
