Colin Murphy: Track 4720 in area near Tirkslieve, Nephin Begs (Ireland)
Tirkslieve via Bangor Trail
Length: 9.0km, Creator time taken: 3h48m, Ascent: 494m, Descent: 501m
Places:Start at F9685205574, Tirkslieve, end at Start Logged as completed by 2
Straightforward route up and down the same way, and although just 401m, you start at about 30m elevation, so it's a decent enough climb.
After leaving the Bangor Trail I expected the peatland area to be swampy given recent deluges, but it was surprisingly firm underfoot. Also when that ends as the slope increases, it is replaced by heather and grass, but the heather is sparse enough not to be an encumbrance. As you ascend the views become increasingly impressive and there is a real sense of wilderness. My track doesn't actually end at the summit, which is marked by a cairn. I continued south for about 100m in order to enjoy the views over Lough Feeagh. A fine summit by any standard.

Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 2h 38m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
