What better way to enjoy a beautiful spring day. This track gives you views down over Glendalough as well as the glorious expanse of Glenmalure. We used the free car park below Laragh and headed up towards Derrybawn summit along the defined trails. Just below the summit on the northern flank there is a rough track leading straight up to the top. This summit provides views in all directions.
Upper Lake Glendalough below
From the summit we headed south west along the ridge enjoying the magnificient views in all directions. Just north west of Cullentragh we switched west towards Mullacor.
Ridge track towards Glenmalure with Mullacor off to the right
While the weather was sunny and the wind cool, this changed for some reason on the descent from Mullacor to the col where the track meets the Wicklow Way. The wind down along here was extremely cold. Just befor reaching the col there is a lovely sheltered spot over by the fence to enjoy a food stop and take in the vista to the south and the magnificent bowl that is Fraughan Rock Glenn.
Upper Lake Glendalough in all its glory.
We followed the well sign posted wicklow Way back towards the service road above The Giants Cut. Continuing along here will meet up with your outward track close to the end of the walk.
