[RWD version 1 ]
This route follows roads, trails and tracks taking in the summits of Lakeen and Stookeen. The views are stunning on a sunny day such as we had a few summers back when we did this route. Follow the road and tracks to the wind farm on Lakeen hill. Access appears to be allowed but be mindful access can change. The ascent for us was uneventful due to the morning haze and cloud. However the views did come out later.

Note: If following this GPS route, we did have to cross a fence at S 97178 72469. There may be a better place to rejoin the Wicklow Way and I would advise avoiding this fence. Once on the Wicklow Way this is followed until you are near the hill of Stookeen.
Stunning country roads in South Wicklow - Fine rambling for sure!
Following forest trails and what seemed like some mountain biking trails you can make your way to the trig pillar on Stookeen with some difficulty or if lucky enough (like us) to find the way through the dense forest without too much bushwackery! The views from the summit of Stooken are well worth the trip!

Following tracks and the road we made our way back to the car parked in Shillelagh. Along the way (and if in late summer) keep an eye out for the field of sunflowers. We took a walk around it too. If memory serves me correctly all donations etc. go to a good cause.
