Track Rating ..
[RWD version 1 ] A Loop Walk taking in War Hill, Djouce and a section of the Wicklow Way.
Starting from Lough Tay/ Pier Gates parking areas, we followed the road towards the Sally Gap and turned off up the slope of War Hill at the Sheepbanks Bridge. It was very wet underfoot but reasonable walking all the same. We were practicing some navigational tactics up the slope to War Hill and the cloud level gave us a nice challenge to try these out.
From the summit of War hill it is typical Wicklow bog terrain down to the col. A short stop at the Coffin stone while on route to the summit of Djouce is well worth the ever so slight detour (if one could call it that). Once on the summit of Djouce the track down to White Hill and onwards to Robber's Pass Hill is easily followed along the Wicklow Way.
Views out to Lough Tay are stunning and we were lucky that the cloud line stayed up high as we finished the walk. Sadly there appears to be more recent damage due to mountain bikes on the side of the board walk from White Hill down towards Lough Tay. On the plus side, we got to see plenty of Grouse and Snipe while only meeting two other walkers. A fine afternoon ramble with 4 summits for the summit bagger to enjoy.
