[RWD version 1 ]
We started from Kiltealy forest entrance in Ballycrystal. We went up through the reasonably open forest and then over the reasonably open land directly to Black Rock Mountain.
Easy walking, great skies to look at on the SW slope of Black Rock Mountain
This summit narrowly misses being a Vandeleur Lynam at 599.6m, just 40cm short. It was in mist while we were there but it was easy to find tracks to the west. We came to the Turf Cutters Hut as below:
A slightly misty view of the Turf Cutter's Lodge with Mount Leinster behind it.
And then on to the slopes of Mount Leinster. Looking back there was this view of Mount Leinster East.
Mount Leinster East Top from the west.
From the top of Mount Leinster there were some unusual views such as this one towards Blackstairs Mountain.
Blackstairs Mountain viewed from Mount Leinster.
We went on to Knockroe measuring its summit and col with Mount Leinster with a surveying GPS. As the sun was sinking there was still this view of Mount Leinster from the south.
Mount Leinster still sunlit near dusk.
Getting back was easy enough though there is a degree of heather bashing.
