Reaching the Priest's Leap col is an adventure in itself particularly from the south because the single track road twists in every way possible and provides little in the way of safe passing places at times. Going to Knockboy South top is fairly straightforward as is ascending to Knockboy, which has been described previously. From the top of Knockboy take a look at the minor top of Knockboy North. We surveyed this to determine if its prominence is over 15m which would make it a Vandeleur-Lynam. The main treats of this walk are the two corrie lakes near Caoinkeen (Akinkeen on old maps). Pictured below is the most northerly Lough Ahinkeen.
We visited Caoinkeen S on this occasion. Viewed from afar this is a striking summit surrounded by steep descents and/or cliffs on three sides, but from the top it is mundane rough land from which the cliffs cannot be seen. There is a final descent to the road using the route to the NE. There may be other possible routes for example around the side of Lough Nambreacdearg .. research widely there are serious cliffs around here.

Subsequently we found that Knockboy North IS a Vandeleur-Lynam.
NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 3h 16m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
