By Scottish standards Meall Fuar-mhonaidh has no great distinction in terms of height or form. But it is prominent over a large area, being conspicuous from the neighbourhood of Inverness and from the environs of the legendary Loch Ness, and as such it has become a popular ascent for locals and holidaymakers, in particular those who've been sick on their vacation and are desperately trying to rescue something on the last day of a trip when the weather forecast is shocking.
The walk starts near the end of a minor road above the loch's western side, accessed from the large village of Drumnadrochit. There's a decent amount of parking (but it can still fill up...I had to wait for another car to leave, for instance). From here a track signed 'Hill Path' heads south-west, with ascentionists soon being turned west on a thinner (but still obvious) path. This climbs very gently up through woodland before a clamber over a high stile on a very substantial deer fence places you on the open hillside.

From here it's a steady, easy climb up a wide path (very soft in places, but not really gopping) to the cairn on the summit. It's a huge panorama from here, with Loch Ness prominently seen...one of very few places from where it's decently displayed.

I returned the same way, but a fuller, tougher day could be made by heading cross-country to the neighbouring Graham summit of Glas-bheinn Mhor.
