thegrimes: Track 4017 in area near Shehy/Knockboy (Ireland)
Mullaghmesha Loop
Length: 7.4km, Creator time taken: 1h57m, Ascent: 385m,
Descent: 64m

Places: Start at W1135949355, end at W0868151406 3.4km NW from Start
Logged as completed by 1

Pleasant, non-challenging loop walk, beginning and ending at the car park by the bridge south of Castle Donovan ruins.
Some boggy ground heading west on the southern flank of the lake and heading to 'Owen's Kitchen' north of the lake. This is an ideal spot for a rest and to enjoy the view over Bantry Bay.

Also the descent from Mullaghmesha to the wood can be very wet under foot, so take care on this stretch.
The ascent is, for the most part, on a grassy, gravel access road (to the transmitter masts near the summit), with 4 stiles to cross. The main feature is the 2 massive rocks overlooking the road.

COMMENTS

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 2h 7m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
