This week's need for a quick circular couple of hours dragged Indy and me to the Dungonnell Way which wends its way around and about the Antrim plateau. It's on a combination of forest tracks and (very) quiet roads, and is clearly waymarked throughout. You can leave a car at numerous points, but I chose the access road for the Dungonnell Reservoir. From here we walked east along the road, bending north-east and then taking the path through the forest...all inclines are gentle although the odd cattle-grid necessitated briefly carrying His Indyness. A few yards of tarmac on the on the Glenariff road leads to more open hillside and forest . At the next road crossing I believed the map rather than the waymarks and cost myself about 400m of going the wrong way...believe the signs when they tell you to turn left. The road is soon left for a quick climb through the forest, then a contouring track leads to the Skerry East Road...the rest of the route is tarmac. Wending across the lower slopes of Slievenanee this is pleasantly wild, the sort of place that could easily get Kate Bush playing on your internal jukebox, or at least 1979-era Art Garfunkel. A couple of turns, a quick dash across the main road and the reservoir access road is regained. The time taken was actually 2hrs 17mins.

Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, a rough and often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 3h 28m + time stopped for breaks
Note: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
