Route taking in Knocknagantee, its West Top and Cnoc Breasail.
The route uses a track beginning in a farmyard (with permission) in the townland of Gloragh which ascends all the way to the col between Knocknagantee and the west top. I had used the track twice previously on descent and on both occasions had been suprised by its extent; it tops out around 630m at V665 732. From the top of the track to Knocknagantee is trivial and from there westwards, following a fence most of the way to the West Top, was straightforward, even in the difficult conditions; a strong wind, drizzle and maybe 20m visibility above 450m.
Having had it so easy so far and because johnstna had not visited Conc Breasail, we decided to head south. Initially navigation went well as we headed a little east to avoid losing too much height into Coomavanniha. After that however, things deteriorated as the lack of visibility combined with the tortured nature of the ground made progress slow and unsure. On finally reaching the summit, we took an inexplicable detour in a north easterly direction onto steep ground before having to dive back to the north west and safer ground, before our descent by way of the same track we had used on the ascent.
