Peter Walker: Track 3315 in area near Slievenamon, South Midlands (Ireland)
Slievenamon, just up and down
Length: 6.2km, Creator time taken: 56m59s, Ascent: 490m,
Descent: 40m

Places: Start at S3178228862, Slievenamon, end at S2997830520 2.4km NW from Start
Logged as completed by 2

For those who don't wish to visit the subsidiary tops of Slievenamon, this is just up the main track from the road and back again. It was done at the end of a day that had already seen a lengthy itinerary in the Galtees and a fair tranch of the western Knockmealdowns too, but on the drive back to Clonmel it struck me that there was easily enough daylight for a guerilla raid on Slievenamon. A brisk walk up with no rests, about five minutes of photos on the summit and then a flat-out run back down. It was genuinely joyful, feeling that I still had that much in the tank after all the exertions I'd already put in. Don't worry...it doesn't happen often.
Slievenamon summit
(The actual elapsed time was around 77 minutes...MV hasn't properly recorded the descent because I was going TOO FAST...go me!).
In my elation I checked out the results of the last Slievenamon mountain race. Perhaps this was unwise: I would have come 61st out of 63, beating an over 50s female and an over 70s male...who has since died.
I bet John Lenihan is terrified.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 2h 4m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
