Onzy: Track 3153 in area near Carnaween, Bluestack Mountains (Ireland)
Carnaween from the South
Length: 4.5km, Creator time taken: 1h 2m, Ascent: 392m,
Descent: 198m

Places: Start at G8819387485, Carnaween, end at G8771188477 1.1km NW from Start
Logged as completed by 1

A route to and from Carnaween from parking in front of an abandoned farmhouse at G882 873, north of Disert Graveyard. Brutal day - non-stop rain and a good deal of wind - not however, as much wind as further south, where tropical storm Barney was ripping across the country.

There are 2 crosses on the summit. One on top of a cairn which is the actual summit; another on top of a plinth which contains a door, almost tabernacle-like, behind which slightly elevated on an iron grid to keep it above the damp, is a visitors book. On another day, I would have sat quite happily and leafed through this, but today only allowed a quick scribble of my own before I had to pack it away before it blew off the hill in a sodden mass.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 33m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
