[RWD version 1 ]
Start and end at Delphi Adventure Resort. We followed the main road to the N and turned left into an alley which we realised afterwards is probably private (the Delphi Lodge, I think). As there was not a soul around, we veered left as we saw the main building to cross a bridge we had seen from the main road and hopefully found ourselves almost immediately on steep, open ground. It is probably more advisable to follow Simoburn's PMG walk directions though. From this side, it is a long haul to reach the Ben Lugmore ridge, but you are quickly rewarded with splendid views, which almost become unreal once you reach the top of the ridge. There is great walking to be done here on a good day, firm ground, extensive views and a bit of a challenge, too !! I had been on Mweelrea in 2005, starting from the W, but the terrible weather conditions I encountered around what looked like the summit area prevented me to really ascertain I had reached the very top. No doubt this time. Top of Connaught. And with the views this time !! The vista on the Atlantic to the W is just breathtaking. And the descent along the SE spur with Killary Harbour to the S and all the mountains of Connemara in the distance is also pure delight. We finally decided to add Teevnabinnia to our journey, before getting back to the car down some steep, rough ground which led us to one of the forest tracks that took us down to the starting point.
