Track Rating ..
[RWD version 1 ] Circuit of Gougane Barra taking in Coomataggart, its SW Top, Bealick, Conigar and Foilastookeen from parking close the the hotel in the valley.

Before the addition of the Arderin Begs, this route would have yielded a mere two hills; not a great effort/return ratio. Now however, the three added hills make it a more worthwhile round. I had imagined however, that it would be better than it was, and in particular that the views would be great. However, apart from the ascent of Coomataggart and low on the descent of Foilastookeen, the valley and lake are practically invisible due to the lay of the ground and the walk feels like a bog trot for much of it.

Of the new hills, only Foilastookeen feels like a hill; Bealick is bizarre, a big rough plateau, the OS gives two spot heights 535m and 537m. 535 is marked by a substantial cairn, but 537 is nowhere to be found - lots of contenders but no outstanding one.
