A quick shlep out stolen at the end of a long weekend, and the perfect way to spend an early evening.
I looked to follow Wicklore's route from 2009, but youthful (cough) impatience led me to miss a kink in the Tain Way and just plough straight across the slope along thinner trods to gain the ridge further north. (I did return the 'correct' way though, and it's all very easy save for the odd little boggy bit...I'm not completely incompetant). The last stretch to the top is devoid of a clear path, but it's honest and the summit is easy to find by just keeping going up.
I had been intending to title this track 'The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn's Dog', but I've been told by my fiancee that Bran (who's allegedly buried under the huge cairn on the top) actually belonged to Fionn mac Cumhaill. Curse you Irish mythology for robbing an ignorant Englishman of the opportunity to make a fairly obscure cultural reference. Tsk.
