Peter Walker: Track 2786 in area near Corick Mountain, Sperrin Mountains (Ireland)

Looking north from the summit area
Corick Mountain rises relatively close to the A6 Glenshane Pass expressway, but its ascent is a stubborn little number. It's possible to park at the entrance to the forest on a track leaving the road on its south side. A descent leads to an obvious track junction; I turned right here. I then chose to turn sharp left and ascent a firebreak on the right prominent on the approach...ghastly in its lower reaches and still fundamentally frustrating higher up. Once onto the upper slopes I plodded up to the ridge and its attendant fence; a short walk south alongside it from here leads to the top (which could be on either side). On the way back I decided to pursue a course a bit to the north to clip the edge of the forest; this was a lot easier than the ascent and has the added bonus of passing a picturesque little gorge towards the foot of the slope. Once down to the level of the forest a track leads back right to rejoin the outward route.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 24m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
