[RWD version 1 ] I took advantage of a good weather/life/work window for this walk. I left the car in Maam in the lay by across the road from the pub so it would be safer than the parking areas on the Maam - Maam Cross roads but adds a little distance to the day out. The GPS track describes the route well so i'll just make a few comments. I chose this route to maximise the day out and avoid a road walk or hitch hike from Leenane to Maam. I think any day in the Maamturks should bear careful consideration to the weather, the difficult terrain, escape routes and navigation. I could not locate the Well marked on the OS map between Letterbreckaun and Maumturkmore. Also some of footbridge crossing the Glenglosh River to the south of Taobh Dubh is gone so this should be borne in mind if the river is likely to be in flood. Alternative access from the forestry to the east or via the bridge in Loo to the north could be considered. I had intended on picking up Culog following the descent off Binn Idir an Da Log but due to not getting out of bed early enough I knew I'd be pushing it with the early nights. It's a pity as it would only add 2 to 3 kms and 100ish meters to walk. Instead it's a good reason to revisit the spectatular amphitheater that is the Glenglosh river valley. For little extra effort Lackavrea and Knocknagur could be bagged with the benefit of longer days.
