Circular route over 2 Arderins east of the Paps and south of Caherbarnagh - the route takes in Knocknabro West Top and Knocknagowan. The route starts up a, possibly private, rough road leading north towards, and signposted, Shrone Lake.
I had wondered about the wisdom of tackling the bog between these two hills, particularly given the advice of Jackill and fergalh, and had been looking at taking in the hills as two separate walks from the minor road to the south. In the event, once reaching the top of Knocknabro, I could see the route towards Knocknagowan clearly and had to try it. In the event it was not too bad - a bit wet, yes, and plenty of tussocks and heather, but pretty firm ground and little or no hags. From Knocknabro WT to Knocknagowan is 3.3k as the crow flies and it took about 70 minutes. The key is to stay north of the direct line, where the ground is firmer and higher.
The return is along a very picturesque track, becoming a minor road, above the Clydagh River.
All in all a surprisingly satisfying walk.
