[RWD version 1 ] This is a developing habit of mine - taking otherwise unremarkable, minor, or often overlooked summits and devising routes that focus mostly or entirely on them. (See Corrig, Co. Wicklow and Seefin, Co. Wicklow). Here I tackled Table Mountain - that poor relation of nearby Camenabologue. Camenabologue enjoys the envious position of being often included in a circuit of Lugnaquillia. Table Mountain on the other hand is just that bit too much out of the way, 500 metres or so, to entice the weary walker. Add in a monotonous, wet, flat, boggy terrain with difficult peat hags scattered about and Table becomes less and less appealing. However I enjoyed a 16km route that ingnored nearby Camenabologue and Lobawn and focussed on Table as the one and only major summit in the walk. Start in The Glen of Imaal at a forestry entrance. Follow forest tracks at first then head into the trees and cross a small wooden bridge. Wet boggy ground gives way to a decent track (The Table Track) that leads to the col between Table and Camenabologue. This track heads up through militray land but is ana approved access route. From the col head to Table across boggy terrain. Find a small cairn on Table and another to the NW on your onward route. Follow the border of the military range over the minor Pollaghdoo summit before striking south and east to briefly skirt Lobawn before heading south and back onto forestry tracks and a march back to the car. Navigation skill essential in (often) cloudy and wet weather. Very few landmarks on the higher stretches of this walk where it's bog, bog, bog!
