simon3: Track 2380 in area near Coolfree Mountain, Ballyhoura Mountains (Ireland)
Finding easy ways to reach the top of Coolfree.
Length: 5.4km, Creator time taken: 1h47m, Ascent: 189m, Descent: 181m
Places:Start at R66303 15967, Coolfree Mountain, end at R66481 16800 852m N from Start Logged as completed by 1
This experimental route to the top uses the main forest road around the hill and various forest tracks to reach the top. The objective here is to avoid walking any more than strictly necessary on the deep springy untracked vegetation of the top area which is very tiresome.
It is possible to get to within about 140m of the top on tracks at R6738 1614. We reached there having walked anti-clockwise, however it is just as feasible to ascend where we descended.

Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, a rough and often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 24m + time stopped for breaks
Note: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
