Onzy: Track 2189 in area near Masatiompan, Brandon Group (Ireland)
Brandon from West
Length: 17.3km, Creator time taken: 5h 4m, Ascent: 1162m,
Descent: 1140m

Places: Start at Q43424 12610, Masatiompan, Piaras Mor thuaidh barr, Piaras Mór, Brandon Far North Top, Brandon North Top, Brandon, end at Start
Logged as completed by 1

Circular route over Masatiompan, Piaras Mor, Brandon North and Brandon itself. A variation on bogtrotter's track 1848, this instead begins in the large carpark west of Masatiompan, V935804 and proceeds in a clockwise direction. One consequence of this is that the 1km plus uphill at the end of the bogtrotter's track is avoided.

The route climbs up the Dingle Way to the col between Masatiompan and Piaras Mor, quick detour to Masatiompan before climbing Piaras Mor and from there along the ridge, over Brandon North and onto Brandon. The descent is past the multiple crosses (14 I guess, but I didn't count) along Cosan na Naomh, which is well marked (to put in mildly - there is a white stake every 15m!) before returning over a mixture of absolutely lovely green road and tarmac to the car.

At a height of about 400m on the descent along Cosan na Naomh, I saw a track heading roughly west in the distance; this might provide the possibility of shortening the route a bit - but I didn't investigate.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, a rough and often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 5h 24m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.

* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
