This is a GPS track for a route to the summit of the Great Blasket Island. It begins in the dingy which is necessary to bring you from your boat into the small pier. Once on the island you follow the good track up by the mixture of ruined and restored houses. The track splits with the left hand route taking you south of the island. My route turns right instead and follows the track around the north of the island. The track is wet and boggy at times, so boots or wellies are required. The track that goes to the south of the island from the village converges with our track at some point, although our route appears to be shorter. Overall it's a 4.4km march to the summit from the pier, with mostly a continuous gradual climb, although the final 10 minutes requires some effort. Amazing views out to sea and the nearby islands. There is a nice sandy beach back near the pier if you have time and need for rest and relaxation. This is an 8.8km return walk that will take 2 hours at a fair pace.
