Track Rating ..
[RWD version 1 ] Simon3 recently uploaded 'Half a Glenbeigh Horseshoe', so here is my offering 'Third of a Glenbeigh Horseshoe'. Starting at V93526 80439 (Map 78 or 83), I followed a good track towarads the hills. I then headed across wet and boggy ground before the climb to Beenreagh. I imagine this summit is usually forsaken for its higher and more spectacular neighbours. (Although a summit comment from MV member Geo has his group doing a similar walk in the same week as me!).

From Beenreagh I followed the fence down and up towards Macklaun, but I soon struck off left in a beeline for Macklaun rather than follow the fence all the way. From Macklaun it took me 80 minutes to cross the peat-hag ridden col and up to Meenteog. Meenteog's summit is just over the sheep fence next to dramatic cliffs and big drops so take care! With por weather and tired legs I then headed back the way I came. My track will show my exploratory efforts to find a way down to the lakes for a more direct route back to my car. However I couldn't find a way down the dangerous looking crags and cliffs, so I contoured around Macklaun and headed back down via the col with Beenreagh. I had hoped to complete the full Horseshoe, but a big walk the previous day used up my main energy reserves. The result is a medium lenght traipse in Glenbeigh with great views and 3 summits visited, with serious cliffs and big drops in the vicinity of Meenteog.
