simon3: Track 1960 in area near Cooneen Hill, Shannon (Ireland)
An exploration of possible routes on Cooneen Hill.
Length: 5.1km, Creator time taken: 1h55m, Ascent: 222m, Descent: 230m
Places:Start at R90337 66862, Cooneen Hill, end at Start Logged as completed by 1
There may not be one obvious route up Cooneen which is surprising for such a small place. The ascent shown here which went to the east and followed an overgrown temporary track did work, but there may be better routes.
The way down from the summit which could also be used as a way up, went first through a belt of decaying lodgepole pine underlain with briers. Long trousers a good idea. It then came to an overgrown but quite definite track down meeting the main track to the public road.
Note also that the public road to the forest entrance ( shown on thegps track) is also seriously problematical because it is single lane and for long sections completely devoid of passing places. You might find yourself backing 400m if you encountered another vehicle.

NOTE: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, an approximate though often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 1h 24m + time stopped for breaks
NOTE: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
* Note: A GPS Height in the elevation profile is sourced from the device that recorded the track. An "SRTM" height is derived from a model of elevations for parts of the earth. More detail
