[RWD version 1 ]
This route visits the three Benbreen (Binn Braoin) summits in the Twelve Bens. It starts with a long walk up through the Gleninagh Valley, making use of a good track all the way up to the col between Benbaun and Benollaghduff. From the col a steep walk/scramble brings you to the Benbreen North Top summit. The hard work is done and its a straightforward hike along the rocky terrain to the next two summits and back again. (straightforward in good weather that is - however there are lots of rocky bits to negotiate). Care is required on the descent back down to the col below Benbreen North Top due to steep and rocky ground. Watch out for the curious cairn on the way up to the col below Benbaun, and its little shelf for coins. Ask the farmer at the farmhouse on the track for permission to park and walk out of courtesy. He is obliging.
