Picture: Sgurr an Fheadain from one of the fairy pools in Glen Brittle
Fairy Mountain
by mcrtchly 14 Dec 2019
Near the village of Carbost, on the Isle of Skye, the River Brittle, fed by a number of tributaries including Allt Coir' a' Mhadaidh, begins its journey in a glacial corrie (Coire na Creiche) sited dramatically below the Black Cuillin Mountains. From here it flows towards Loch Brittle in a series of stunning waterfalls and turquoise rock pools known as the Fairy Pools. This image was captured at the topmost waterfall (about 40 minutes along the trail from the car park). The main Cuillin ridge was wreathed in cloud, but looming large was the snow-frosted triangular hulk of Sgurr an Fheadain with Waterpipe Gully (a VS rock climb) gouged out of its towering grey cliffs like a giant scratch.
